Materials Needed

Scheepjes (Maxi Sugar Rush) Crochet thread. You can use any size 10 crochet thread.

- Poppy Rose Or Golden Yellow
- Sage Green
- Candle Light (or pale yellow)

🪴Other Materials

* 1.25 mm crochet needles
* 24 gauge wires
* Green Floral Tape
* Glue/glue gun
* Fabric stiffener (Optional)
* Light red and light green chalks (Optional)
* Dowel sticks (size stated in the pattern)

Beehive Ginger Fun Facts

🪴The plant is commonly known in the West by the common name “beehive ginger”, due to its unusual inflorescences which resemble a skep beehive. It is also referred to by the common names “Ginger wort” or “Malaysian ginger”.

🪴Its botanical name is Zingiber spectabileThe Beehive Ginger leaves and rhizomes are used to flavor food. Its young rhizomes are sliced, soaked in vinegar, and used as an appetizer. Young tender shoots are eaten as ulam, fresh as salad.

🪴The Beehive cones last for months. They grow in bright tones of yellow, orange, and even chocolate. The red cones are a sign that they have matured.

🪴The matured flowers produce a foamy juice that can be used to wash your hair. It has been used to make shampoo sold today.

🪴Polynesians used the plant stems for treating toothaches, headaches, cuts, bruises, and skin diseases.
